Zagreb Moves from Co-Design to Action at the Sopot Urban Garden
26 February 2026
Zagreb has reached a key milestone as the team transitions from collaborative planning to final design for its pilot action within the Bauhause Bites project. The design for the Sopot Urban Garden located in the modernist neighborhood of Novi Zagreb is ready!
The Sopot Garden is composed of 229 plots of 50 sqm each and a shared common area of approximately 1,125 sqm. The project aims to transform this common area into an inclusive, accessible space that brings together vulnerable groups and the wider community through therapeutic gardening, nature-based solutions, and quality outdoor time.
Co-created draft design of Sopot Garden
Four co-design workshops were held in May and June 2025 with local stakeholders and future users, including beneficiaries and therapists from the Center for Rehabilitation, residents from St. Ana Retirement Home, and students and a teacher from Otok Elementary School. All workshop outputs have now been compiled, and the team is sketching final drafts informed directly by participants’ input.
While the main co-creation phase is complete, communication and refinement with stakeholders continue, and the implementation phase is still yet to come!
