Three Days of Collaboration and Inspiration in Fundão
16 June 2025
The Bauhaus Bites consortium gathered in Fundão, Portugal, from June 11th to 13th. Our first consortium meeting since the project kicked off in Zagreb, and it was three intense and fruitful days of workshops, learning exchange and study visits.
After a warm welcome from the host city, partners presented their impact pathways – their plans for how they will work to transform urban food systems by creating sustainable, inclusive and aesthetically appealing food environments aligned with New European Bauhaus principles.
Later, we met via video link with Bauhaus of the Sea Sails, a sister New European Bauhaus-aligned project working to reimagine coastal cities.

The meeting offered rich opportunities to learn from Fundão’s local context. Partners visited the Fundão AgroTech Centre and Seminary Experimental Farm, gaining insight into innovation in peri-urban agriculture. They also visited a Municipal Restaurant that will be transformed into a more inclusive, sustainable and functional food environment.
A highlight of the visit was a trip to Alcongosta and the Casa da Cereja (Cherry House), where Bauhaus Bites became godparent to a cherry tree. More than a symbolic gesture, the godparenthood represents a commitment to the regeneration of nature, planting and accompanying the growth of a tree rooted in the identity of the Fundão region.

These three days reminded us of the strength that comes from meeting in person, exchanging knowledge across cities and grounding our shared vision in local realities. We left Fundão energised and more connected, ready to continue co-creating beautiful, sustainable and transformational food environments across our seven cities. A big thank you to our hosts in Fundão municipality.
