Palermo Kicks Off with Food, Creativity and Citizen Participation
27 March 2026
Last Saturday 21st of March, Bauhaus Bites Palermo officially kicked off its pilot actions at the European Palermo Youth Centre (EPYC), marking an exciting milestone for the project’s Twin city.
Kitchen Talk at Palermo’s kick off event
The day opened with the first of six planned Kitchen Talks, a hands-on cooking session led by chef Antonio Campo and social food entrepreneur Nicoletta Cosentino. Participants prepared risotto agli agrumi while exploring topics like local sourcing, seasonality, and women’s empowerment through food. The fruits and flowers used in the session were sourced from a local food-growing cooperative, which launched its weekly market on the same day.
Food enjoyed by the participants of the event included risotto and coppo di Calia e Simenza
The event offered participants a taste of local tradition with the coppo di Calia e Simenza, roasted chickpeas and pumpkin seeds served in a paper cone traditionally enjoyed at Palermo’s local festivals.
Visitors also got a first look at “Come mangia Palermo?”, the citizen science mapping initiative designed by PUSH. Through a physical installation with stickers and interactive materials, participants could engage with the tool hands-on and learn how the online platform works before its digital launch.
All pilot initiatives and tools are now collected on a dedicated local website in Italian, developed by PUSH. Stay tuned for more as Bauhaus Bites Twin cities start kicking off their pilot actions across Europe.
