Oostende Kick-Offs its Action Plan with the Launch of Wijkpunt Vuurtoren
30 April 2026
Rounding off the Twin cities kick-off is Oostende. Last week, the City of Oostende hosted its kick-off event to mark the launch of the city’s Bauhaus Bites action plan in the Lighthouse District.
The kick-off was linked to the opening of Wijkpunt Vuurtoren, a newly renovated community centre for the neighbourhood where food will play an important role. At this location, a highly enthusiastic group of volunteers launched the neighbourhood’s first food distribution point, helping to strengthen food security for local residents. This is a significant step in addressing a key challenge identified in the area: the social grocery store being difficult to access for vulnerable residents in the Lighthouse District.
During the reception, theory was immediately put into practice as participants had the opportunity to taste healthy snacks and experience firsthand the power of coming together around sustainable food.

With this action plan, Oostende aims to improve access to healthy food by creating more diverse food points, bring the community together through social spaces and food initiatives, and expand food skills and the number of edible green zones across the neighbourhood.
We look forward to seeing food security, literacy, and sustainability being strengthened in the Lighthouse District community. With all Twin cities now having kicked off their local activities, Bauhaus Bites is entering an exciting new phase of implementation across all seven cities.
