Zagreb
Zagreb’s approach combines urban gardening, therapeutic design and nature-based solutions to create inclusive green spaces for health and community wellbeing.
About Zagreb
Zagreb is located on the southwestern edge of the Pannonian Basin and only 120 km from the Adriatic coast. This location is responsible for the city’s recognizable character, where Central European flair is complemented by Mediterranean leisure.
The City of Zagreb has been implementing an urban garden project since 2013, which has been recognised at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Within the Bauhaus Bites consortium, Zagreb will build on this strong foundation of community-led urban food practices.
Urban Garden & Inclusive Green Space
Within Bauhaus Bites, Zagreb will improve the common area in the urban garden in the modernist neighbourhood of Sopot, turning it into a therapeutic, inclusive green corner. By learning from past practice, the city will take a step further in implementing policies informed by the New European Bauhaus and introducing Nature-Based Solutions.
The project will promote access to urban gardening, community engagement, mental and physical health, and environmental sustainability. It will also serve as a model for other urban spaces in the city and beyond.
