About Bauhaus Bites
An innovative EU-funded project transforming urban and peri-urban food systems into sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant ecosystems.
Our Vision
The vision of the Bauhaus Bites project is to contribute to resilient, inclusive, healthy and green rural, coastal and urban communities. The goal is to deliver sustainable urban food system transformation via Bauhaus Bites Food Environments, co-created and demonstrated in 7 cities at different levels of societal readiness. Their transferability will be discussed with 30 sister projects and European and global networks, and the results, with innovative actions, will be summarised in a Bauhaus Bites Playbook for broader adoption.

A collective Voice for Change
Our work spans seven diverse cities. Three Trailblazers cities: Birmingham (UK), Fundão (Portugal), Zagreb (Croatia) and four Twin cities: Murska Sobota (Slovenia), Ostend (Belgium), Palermo (Italy), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Each city with it’s unique geographies and societal contexts. By engaging local governments, businesses, and communities, we ensure that our interventions are well-anchored, adapted to the local context and designed to last.
What is a trailblazer city?
Trailblazer cities are cities that have already shown strong engagement in uniting diverse communities through social spaces and food; nature based solutions; developing food literacy and strengthening community infrastructure; or locally tailored solutions in developing food literacy and strengthening community infrastructure.
What is a twin city?
Twin cities are cities that are committing to strengthen their engagement in uniting diverse communities through social spaces and food; nature based solutions; developing food literacy and strengthening community infrastructure; or locally tailored solutions in developing food literacy and strengthening community infrastructure.
Our Approach
We merge science, policy, and local action to:
Design Inclusive Spaces: Collaborating with residents to transform urban areas into hubs of cultural and culinary innovation.
Implement Nature-Based Solutions: Harnessing green infrastructure to boost biodiversity, climate resilience, and food production.
Foster Community Practices: Building networks of knowledge-sharing to encourage local food traditions, sustainable practices, and healthy living.
Drive Policy Change: Developing science-backed tools and strategies for broader adoption and policy alignment across Europe.
